What is the weather like in Puerto Escondido?

How many times have you entered the weather forecast of the place where you planned to go on vacation in the internet search engine? Surely your answer is “many”. And yes, it is logical that when we only have a few days to rest from work and obligations, we want to make sure that we are going to be able to make the most of them.

Vacations and trips are some of the most precious moments we have. We often spend time, money and energy planning those perfect days so that everything goes according to plan. We contact people who have already visited the places to ask for advice, we look for accommodation options in advance and we write down the activities that we can do in the area. There is a large quota of illusion and enthusiasm when putting together the expected trip.

However, no matter how much time we spend in our day-to-day activities prior to putting together that long-awaited trip, there are details and factors that we cannot control. Things to take into account that are beyond our possibilities and that, in turn, can radically affect the time we spend traveling.

One of those factors beyond human predictability is the weather. Although we can sometimes make the vacation days coincide with the forecast of the chosen tourist destination, there are many chances that unexpected weather events will also happen. For this reason, beyond the forecast that tells us in a fairly approximate way how the weather will be on the selected days, we can also find out about the general weather of our vacation destination. Although we cannot modify it, knowing a little more in detail how the weather or the different seasons behave, allows us to make better decisions when booking our well-deserved vacations.

So what is the weather like in Puerto Escondido?

As you have probably already read in other articles, Puerto Escondido is a coastal city in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. It faces the Pacific Ocean and is located in the southwest of the country. Although Mexico belongs to the Northern Hemisphere, the vast majority of its coasts (both on the Caribbean coast and on the Pacific coast) have a rather tropical climate, more similar to that of Central America.

In that sense, Puerto does not have the four normal seasons that other areas of the country or other countries do have. In Puerto Escondido, it is hot all year round. High temperatures are a constant, regardless of the time of year in which you find yourself. The range goes from 22 degrees to 37 degrees.

The best way to understand the climate of Puerto Escondido is to know that the four seasons that we know are replaced by two seasons that cover more or less half of the year each:

Rainy season:

This wet season runs from the months of April/May to October/November. It is mainly characterized by its rains and tropical storms: lightning, thunder and heavy rain that falls from the sky. The good news is that it is not like other rainy seasons in other places where it rains every day, all day. In Puerto, the rainy season means that it rains. But not necessarily every day. In general, the rains occur every 2 or 3 days during these months and for a few hours a day. In addition, the rains usually occur more than anything towards the afternoon / night. So although it rains and many times large amounts of water fall, it is not a rain that paralyzes and does not allow you to enjoy. The beauty of this season is that the vegetation is much more alive and the colors turn green with great intensity, everything really becomes more beautiful. Another noteworthy fact about this rainy season is that it coincides with the wave season, so if you are a lover of surfing or big waves, you will love enjoying this show that takes place almost daily during the months of May to November. .

Dry season:

This hot but less sticky season occurs between the months of October/November to April/May. It is characterized by being completely dry: 1 or 2 rains fall with luck in all those months. It is really striking. It also usually coincides with the coolest days (which are not many) but which occur during these months, generally at night or very early in the morning. The days are bathed in full sun, almost no clouds are seen (only those that arrive at sunset to decorate the sky with colors) and the sea is usually calmer, which makes it possible to bathe more calmly. In addition, this season coincides with the high season for tourism, the one preferred by visitors.

Although there is a clear difference between the two seasons, it is said that Puerto Escondido has one of the best vacation climates because there are always beautiful days and there are few chances that you will get rain every day, even if you visit this paradise in the months of the rainy season.
